When you eat a bowl of pasta, chunk of bread or jacket potato, it gets broken down into sugars. Processed foods and those like rice and pasta get broken down quickly into sugar. This causes your blood sugar level to rise.

 

Our bodies can’t function properly if our Blood sugar level gets too high so we produce INSULIN to remove the excess sugar.

 

Insulin’s a TWO FACED hormone Good Guy one minute then he SWITCHES into your worst nightmare

 

Insulin’s job is to reduce the blood sugar levels it does this in 2 main ways,

 

THE GOOD GUY : It takes the sugar in your blood and converts the sugar into glycogen and store it in your muscles and liver. Glycogen is like the battery on your mobile phone the more you use your body the more energy your body needs. If you don’t use your mobile phone it can remain charged on stand by for days!

 

So when your blood sugar level rises insulin tops up your ‘internal battery supply’.

 

INSULIN THE NIGHTMARE : Once your batteries are topped up what happens to any sugar that is left over?

 

Insulin converts the excess sugar into fat and stores it as FAT.

 

The reason this happens is that as humans we have evolved over millions of years living as hunter gatherers, hunting, eating fruits in season, nuts, plant roots etc. We had few ways to store food and farming was not a way of life.

 

We could not afford to waste any food so we came very efficient at storing the EXCESS.

 

The problem we have now is that we now have more sugar and grains in our diet and we’ve still retained the ability to STORE EXCESS SUGAR VERY EFFIFICIENTLY.

 

In order to get and stay lean we need to KNOW how to keep INSULIN WORKING WITH US and stop it turning into a night mare.
